FITC and CRDC MATERIALS Contribute to Building EPR Capacity in the Philippines
News

FRRL Industrial Trading Corporation (FITC) and CRDC MATERIALS were honored to participate as a resource speaker in a regional capacity building and stakeholder engagement session hosted by the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau, National Capital Region (DENR–EMB NCR) on June 27.
The event was held in support of the ongoing implementation of the Philippines Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act of 2022 (RA 11898).
The capacity-building session convened stakeholders from across industries, including Obliged Enterprises (OEs), Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs), local government units, and environmental advocates. FITC and CRDC MATERIALS were invited as a key private sector contributor to share innovative approaches to plastic waste management in alignment with the country's EPR objectives.
Circular Economy Specialist Nicholas Kolesch, founder and director of Singapore-based consultancy NK Circular Solutions Pte. Ltd., represented CRDC MATERIALS and FITC in a presentation titled “Accelerating Concrete Solutions to Plastic Pollution.” The presentation highlighted how RESIN8® technology from CRDC MATERIALS can be used to transform all types of plastic waste (resins 1-7) into durable concrete and asphalt materials.
The key message presented to attendees was that plastic waste is not only a problem of volume—it is also a challenge of value. By transforming low-value plastics into inputs for infrastructure-grade construction, RESIN8® technology helps to redefine the economic value of post-consumer plastics. In turn, manufacturing RESIN8® from plastic waste supports the circular economy and reduces environmental burdens.
According to DENR, the Philippines generates over 61,000 metric tons of solid waste daily, with plastic accounting for a significant share. The EPR Act mandates producers to take responsibility for the lifecycle of their packaging—particularly plastic. However, scalable, local solutions remain limited.
RESIN8® supports countries to address this gap by offering a viable end-use for collected plastic waste, reducing landfill volume while supporting infrastructure resilience.
FITC is collaborating with CRDC MATERIALS to introduce RESIN8® in the Philippines and lead by example. As a technology-driven engineering solutions provider, FITC is committed to supporting national environmental programs and working with regulatory bodies to turn EPR from a compliance exercise into an opportunity for innovation and sustainability.
Following the session, FITC and CRDC MATERIALS have jointly committed to:
- Strengthen collaboration with LGUs and PROs for possible RESIN8 pilot sites in the Philippines.
- Support awareness campaigns on EPR compliance with practical, industry-based solutions.
